BURLYMAN ENTERTAINMENT
MARCH 4, 2005

THE SHAOLIN COWBOY is written and illustrated by Geof Darrow, the artist behind HARD BOILED and BIG GUY AND RUSTY THE BOY ROBOT with Frank Miller, and the conceptual artist behind THE MATRIX TRILOGY. Coloring is handled by Peter Doherty (SEAGUY, JUDGE DREDD).

As with DOC FRANKENSTEIN one month before, THE SHAOLIN COWBOY has received more than double the book's initial orders through reorder. First edition copies might still be available on shop shelves, but no further copies of the first printing will be fulfilled by Diamond.

This new edition will ship with THE SHAOLIN COWBOY issue #2 and feature a new cover specifically done in reaction to the demand by Darrow himself.

Of the demand, Darrow has said: "Thanks."

Of the first issue, critics have said:

"Darrow's panels could easily translate into the flow of a movie. I don't hand out perfect ratings for art like peanuts, but this book truly deserves it." -- Al Harahap, www.Comixfan.com

"Shaolin Cowboy definitely has the look and style of a European album and retains the hyperdetail and violence of "Hard Boiled." Tom McLean, www.Variety.com

"The production values are fantastic. Pages of thick, high-quality paper are vivified by bright, juicy colors. Geof Darrow’s twisted genius assaults senses and sensibilities... this first issue is a thirty-two page clinic on the meaning of panoramic... Burlyman is two-for-two in my book." -- Dexter K. Flowers, www.brokenfrontiers.com

"As a reader, I can't quite see what it is that Darrow is building with Shaolin Cowboy, but he has certainly provided one hell of a beginning." -- Chad Boudreau, www.ComicReaders.com

"Fun to read. And reread. Over and over again. Continually... I would miss the birth of my first born before I missed the next issue." -- Graig Kent, www.chud.com

"Shaolin Cowboy #1 is a book that doesn't go halfway on anything... Over the top and to the extreme in violence, humor, and most importantly art, Shaolin Cowboy #1 knows what it's going to try to deliver... I will cheerfully buy each and every issue without question." Greg McElhatton, www.Icomics.com

Of The Shaolin Cowboy, Darrow has said: "It’s funny, he’s not really a Shaolin monk or a cowboy – the name just sounds goofy enough for me – but he’s a character I can do anything with. If I get tired of taking it in an adventure route, he can go supernatural, or a martial arts direction, or a Western. We don’t really know when it’s taking place, but it’s definitely not a Western per se – there are some cowboy hats, but there are no Indians, and no girl is tied to the railroad tracks. His mission is probably trying not to get killed."

Diamond's Previews suggests: "Even Godot has been waiting for this one!!!! It's an all you can eat fisticuffs buffet as Tiger, Snake, Monkey, Eagle, Mantis and Dragon fists fly when an old enemy returns and The Shaolin Cowboy finds himself in the hands of the claws of King Crab!!!!!"

Starting with the second issue, the Wachowski brothers will pen an ass-ologue, a recap of the story so far from the perspective of the Shaolin Cowboy's ass.

Available bi-monthly, THE SHAOLIN COWBOY has a recommended retail price of US $3.50 and features 32 pages of full color and heavy card-stock cover. Issue #2 and the second printing of issue #1 with new cover art arrives simultaneously in shops early March. All Burlyman Entertainment books are printed in the USA (Imagine Print Group).
